Interestingly, the Sapporo White Illumination is a pioneer of light events in Japan. Although Japan’s illumination journey started in 1900 with ships illuminating the sea during a Kobe naval review, the Sapporo White Illumination, launched in 1981, was the first large-scale, city-wide illumination specifically designed to attract tourists.
