Autumn in Hokkaido is the season when salmon return to the river of their birthplace. Salmon is a food source that is deeply intertwined with the lives of the people of Hokkaido, so much so that it is commonplace for people to hand-make pickled salmon roe in their own homes. There are also many traditional salmon dishes prepared in Hokkaido, and the specialty restaurants that serve these dishes are unique to the region. Here, we will introduce the Sake no Marukame salmon specialty store, which is famous for its sashimi salmon.

Hoheikan

Hoheikan

Established as a hotel by the Hokkaido Development Commission, Hoheikan was opened in 1881 on the occasion of Emperor Meiji's official visit to Sapporo. After moving to its current location in Nakajima Park, it was reopened as a wedding venue. The building was rebranded as a civic exchange center following the completion of its restoration work in 2016. The architecture of the early Meiji period and rich displays of history throughout, including reproductions of the guest rooms, are highlights of any visit to Hoheikan.
