Ainu Center

The Hokkaido Ainu Center aims to deepen historical recognition of Ainu people, hand down Ainu culture from generation to generation, and promote the preservation of Ainu cultural properties.

The Hokkaido Ainu Center was established to deepen historical recognition of Ainu people, hand down Ainu culture from generation to generation, and promote the preservation of Ainu cultural properties. The Ainu Association of Hokkaido runs and manages this Center by commission from the Hokkaido Government. The center comprises an exhibition room, books and informational materials room, and a preservation training room. Visitors can learn about Ainu history and look at living tools, books, and other materials. There is also a video corner, which shows videos explaining the Ainu Association’s activities and recent trends among the Ainu people. Visitors can also request explanations from curators and staff, who are knowledgeable and trained to educate visitors about the Ainu people.
