Useful Information for Foreign Tourists in Sapporo: How to Wear a Yukata.

Trying on the yukata.

A yukata is a traditional Japanese garment that can be worn as room wear or sleepwear. If your hotel or ryokan guestroom comes with a yukata, you can wear it all throughout your stay. Follow the steps below to put it on.

1.
A yukata is worn somewhat like a dress shirt over your undergarments. For both men and women, first place the right side across your chest and then cover it with the left side. The left side should always be on top (only those who have passed away wear the right side on top).

2.
Wrap the belt around your waist and tie it in the front. The knot can be moved to the side or back if you like. Wearing a yukata tightly without exposing any skin results in a beautiful and trim silhouette.
