Mt. Soranumadake

An accessible mountain with six marshes

Mt. Soranuma with an altitude of 1,251m has an accessible hiking trail even for beginners and is one of the most loved mountains by Sapporo citizens. It is a popular destination for climbing and hiking all throughout the year and during the winter season there are visiters who climb mountains with skis. The area around the summit is designated as Type1 Special District of Shikotsutouya National Park and visitors can view the city of Sapporo, Mt. Eniwadake, Lake Shikotsu and Mt. Yoteizan from there. Around the peak there are six marshes of varying sizes, including Soranuma Marsh,. which the name of the mountain derives from. There are hiking trails off of Bankeinuma , Rubinuma Marsh and Aonuma Marsh. The peak is about a 8km hike from the trail opening and takes about 3 1/2 hours. During the walk, the cute Ezoshima squirrel may show themselves to you.
