Mt. Sankaku

Recommended for casual mountain climbing in Sapporo—summit with a stunning view where a first class triangulation station has been established

With an altitude of 311 meters, Mt. Sankaku affords a bird’s eye view from its summit of the townscape of Sapporo, and is recommended for beginners of mountain climbing thanks to its well-furnished paths. During the weekends, locals come to enjoy the nature, from small children led by their elderly guardians to young people enjoying trail running. Signboards and benches are set up along the way at every junction, and you may select your own route by combining the right gradient and distance for you. It takes no more than one hour to climb up the mountain even at a leisurely pace, so you can come here casually on a fine day or during your travel on the spur of the moment. Mt. Sankaku has three trailheads—Yamanote, Kobetsuzawa and Miyanomori, with Yamanote being the most convenient with a parking lot and public bathrooms. Don’t forget to bring some beverages with you as there are no vending machines.
