Enjoy the beautiful valley of Toyohira River with rafting experience in Jozankei

“The most memorable thing about rafting down the upper stream of Toyohira River is the beauty of the valley. You may also find the remains of the first hydroelectric power station in Hokkaido, a relic from the pioneering period.” says Mr. Kashiwadani, who is a nature guide for Toyohira River and Jozankei. Kashiwadani has been a river rafting guide both in Japan and overseas and is currently promoting the appeal of his hometown Sapporo to tourists. The upper stream of Toyohira River, where hot springs gush from both sides, flows through a deep valley, so the view is almost completely inaccessible from the national highways. In other words, you can enjoy great scenic spots free of any human artifacts a mere 40 minute drive away from the downtown area. There are four starting locations, including a unique access point where you go down to reach the river and you can experience the most thrilling route according to the water level of the time.
