Hot Spring Hotel Marukoma, a lakeside hotel in Lake Shikotsu

A hot-spring hotel in a secluded setting popular for the rustic natural beauty and the expanse of Lake Shikotsu beyond the rocks

About 50 minutes by car from New Chitose Airport, “Marukoma Hot Spring” on the banks of Lake Shikotsu is hot-spring hotel where you can bath while enjoying spectacular views of the lake. In addition to the “natural open-air bath”, where the hot spring bubbles up around your feet, a feature said to exist at around only 20 locations in Japan, you can also enjoy the “panoramic open-air bath” with the expanse of the lake beyond the rocks that encircle the bath tub. If you want to enjoy the morning and evening views, we recommend staying the night, but it is also possible to enjoy the hot spring on a day trip. There are private bathrooms where you can enjoy the scenery and the hot spring, so they are recommended for families with young children and overseas visitors. If you make use of a bathing plan, which includes a “kaiseki” (traditional multi-course) meal for each person (for two or more persons, reservation required), you can fully enjoy the hotel even on a day trip.
